DVD REVIEWS

Close Encounters of the Absurd KindDanger Mouse Saves The World...Again!The Great Bone Idol
Titles from Pearson Television

The moment I heard that DM was available on DVD, I just couldn't resist buying them all...I mean, what's the point in being one of the world's biggest fans without owning any episodes on DVD? Sure, I've managed to scrape a few VHS titles from charity shops and EBay, but I knew my collection would not last forever and it was degrading day after day.
So, naturally I assumed that the new digital revolution must have brought forward an incredible opportunity to immortalise the mouse in the best possible quality. The question is, did I set my expectations too far?

Project MoonViva Danger Mouse!Who Stole The Bagpipes?
Titles from Fremantle Media

Distributed by a mixed source of Pearson Television (Volumes 1-3) and Fremantle Media (Volumes 4-6), It is unclear whether these presentations were mastered from their film originals or an analogue tape. I say this because I have noticed that some of the episodes seem to have suffered from the torments of time more than others.
For example no two episodes share the same quality. One might have a really good picture whereas another episode can have the clearest audio but the picture quality is lacking somewhat.

The very first disc. Menu layout is surprisingly good but the episodes are somewhat old and a little boring. The Duckula special is a great addition though.

For a new release, the quality of this DVD is somewhat disappointing. As always, though, the great episodes within make up for this deficit.

By far the best DVD of the set. The episode selection contains some of the funniest and cutest examples ever made.

After careful examination of these DVD's, I found the mastering of each episode seemed to be a little half-hearted at the best of times. There has been no outstanding "re-mastering" as such. In fact, one could be forgiven for thinking that given the benefits of today's technology, a much better job could have been done with these DVD's.
Nonetheless, they are what they are. When you love DM, you don't care what the quality is just as long as you can watch each episode comfortably.
Without a doubt, any child of the 80's will find this collection of DVD's will be a valuable asset to their lifestyle.
